An item ticked off my Melbourne bucket list! I ordered online and had to upload a selfie which was then turned into a sketch of me which was on the package that came down with my wrapped up ham and cheese Jafflechute. It was very cool!

I've now seen Peaches - she was very confronting and her show was kind of like her movie, Peaches Does Herself. It was interesting but not the best gig I've been to. Before the encore she and her backup dancers started selling t-shirts to anyone in the crowd, and it was taking ages so we left.

And Anastacia - her voice was great, so powerful - unfortunately the sound mixing wasn't great though, and the music was too loud. She did great rock covers and her famous pop songs and ballads. It was quite enjoyable. I was surprised at how much valley speak there was!

Bands I haven't seen but want to:
1. No Doubt
2. Spice Girls
3. Portishead
4. Sia
5. Zemfira
6. Lana del Rey
7. Adele
8. Amanda Palmer

It was actually a walk because I don't run anymore. It was probably the most intense exercise I've had since I stopped running though - I power walked and pushed myself and got very sweaty - and in the last km I did do some running. It was great.

Note added to goal Bungy trampoline
Aero Bounce took up a little spot in my local shopping centre with four bungy trampolines over summer so I had a go today. I didn't do any flips like some of the kids, but I went pretty high just with my own weight, and at the very end one of the operators helped me go even higher, I think I went past the level of the first floor. I was a bit scared and found it scary for a while after starting, and felt a little shaky. But I enjoyed it.

Photo added to goal Dye my hair blue

Finally did this before going away to World Pride a few weeks ago. It took seven hours and four people at the hairdresser's - involved bleach, treatment, toner, blue dye, haircut, more blue dye, fixing the cut again, and a blow dry. Such a long process but I only plan on doing once. I found I've spent longer with gradually lightening shades of green hair (over three weeks so far) than I did with blue (about a week and a half).

One hundred and one goals were on my list
One thousand and one days to cross them off
Day Zero and the months pass, I persist
Through self-important peaks, and injured troughs.
I fly a kite; give blood; and start to jog,
Learn cryptics and spend one month without meat.
I read all of my books, some were a slog,
I ride a Segway; coffin; and a steed.

I haven’t bought a house though; not exciting.
No luck with bowling, riding bikes or chess.
But have I gotten back to poetry writing?
I hope with this, my last achievement, yes.

So here I stand, with 80% done
Not too bad for Day One Thousand and One.

May (so far 29):
I'm doing well for Mindfulness in May, having definitely meditated for 28 of the month's days so far, there's one I'm not completely sure whether I did or not but I'll give myself the benefit of the doubt. This year I've finally started to get some regularity and that is particularly true this month.
-11 Mr. Meditate meditation classes
- 10 Mindful in May guided audio meditations
- 5 meditations of my own, silently, of varying length
-1 Kadampa meditation class
-1 Simply Silence meditation class
-1 Art of Living long kriya

I made a new group of friends shortly after starting the project, through a book club. It's been great having this new group of all women with great conversation and seeing them pretty regularly. I would like to make more new friends, though I'm not sure how to go about it and haven't had much time lately - but if I do another challenge like this, I think it'll go on the list again.

Note added to goal Go the gym regularly
I've averaged three times a week this year plus additional exercises at home. At the gym I've done about 10 mins on exercise bike plus the leg curl and leg press, and the additional exercises involve lifting my straightened leg while lying down, the same but with the leg on the side, and doing bridges.
This is definitely not what I had in mind when I started i.e. staying fit and active. My running made me fitter and more active than ever, but the resulting injury (a torn cartilage) has left my fitness worse off. It's been nearly a year since the pain started, and six months since I got the proper diagnosis and started seeing a much better physio. In this time it has gotten much better i.e. I'm back to being able to extend my leg, walk, not look swollen, generally live without pain etc - but it's not what it was before. And I may not ever get back to feeling really fit and active. I don't know.

Take Three, January 2013:
This was the best attempt so far, a combination of frying and baking using this recipe: http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/wordofmouth/2012/jun/07/how-cook-perfect-chicken-kiev
It wasn’t too dry or burnt, a rather nice chicken with some great tasty garlic-butter filling. I’d like to work on getting the butter even more fully enclosed by the chicken so it can be runnier when cut into.
It was much better than it looks on the photo, too!

Take four, April 2013:
Didn’t go so well. I beat the chicken too hard, and the fillets were very big, butter escaped, and it wasn’t cooked all that well. Probably my worst attempt so far. I was tired so probably shouldn’t have attempted it yesterday.

Take five, May 2013:
I made two – the one I photographed allegedly tasted good, but I didn’t really like mine at all. This time the chicken seemed to hold together well so I didn’t use toothpicks. This was a mistake as most of the butter escaped during the deep-frying. One of them also opened up at that point and then didn’t cook evenly – and in fact was undercooked at first. I also should really prepare the night before. This is going to take a while!

Finished Season 7 - and the series!
Finally toward the end there were some scenes I remembered from when I watched them at the time – 15 years ago! I must say it was all much more impressive then. I still got a little emotional when Closing Time played at the end but really, I’ve spent the last few seasons watching it to get it over with. I’m glad it’s done now!

I fell in love with this show as a tween, as it was ending, and wished I could watch it all. Eventually and gradually, it came out on DVD and I did.
My watching the whole show was spread out over about 7 years but the core time watching was between 6 and 7 days. Quite a bit!
I'm surprised to say I liked the first two seasons best - by far, in fact.
No interest in watching the 2009 reboot, I’ve seen a little and it was terrible.

January:
-One long kriya
-One short meditation near work

February:
-Two short meditations near work
-Three-day Sahaj Samadi meditation course + 3 meditations at home
-Brief meditation during ayurvedic cooking course
Done!

I made sure I consciously avoided meat and seafood in my diet. I particularly tried to focus on eating more vegetables and fruit instead of more grains, sugar or fatty food and only a couple of times ate processed fake meat. I took an ayurvedic cooking class which pointed out some other foods to minimise or avoid.

It really wasn't hard. I felt fine. I didn't really miss meat. The only times I generally crave meat strongly are when I'm sick but I didn't get sick, at least not enough to need meat, during the month. I'm not sure I noticed feeling that much healthier. Maybe, but maybe I would need longer to really do so.

Went today with friends. It's not that good value for money and the entertainment isn't in good taste but it's enjoyable and varied. This is the biggest cuckoo clock in the world.

Signed a Lease. So my girlfriend and I are finally moving in together, and have less time pressure to buy. And can take some time off from looking.
Did a practical course in ‘Aromatouch’. It was massaging people’s back, head and feet with aromatherapy oils. It included running fingers up the spine to spread the oil, pressing the hands horizontally up the sides of the back, pulling the palms up the back and arms, and walking the thumbs up the back. This was what I wanted from a practical course. It was also nice to receive a massage.

Aiming for February!

With the same foundation. It was an amazing experience. There were highs and lows. The first one was four years ago and I didn't write that much in my How I Did It entry from then. This one was harder physically - I was very sore from the yoga, my knee injury and sore wrist held me back, and I got a headcold which made a day and a half of it really hard. Two and a half days were silent, and I didn't have trouble not talking but not thinking about talking was very difficult and distracting. But it was also wonderful. There was lovely sense of being alone and yet connected at the same time, and by the end there was such a contagious joy in us all. I'm really glad I did this.
