7 Things x 2021

An alternative to boring New Years' resolutions

Seven prompts to get you thinking about what you want to achieve in 2021.

A fun way to come up with goals for the New Year - add your answers and give yourself some new challenges to pursue.

 Take the 7 Things Challenge

(Open during December and January.)

Each year we ask the Day Zero community to list some New Year's goals based on 7 prompts designed to get you thinking about what you would like to achieve.

Then from the many thousand responses, a summary is generated with top 10 lists and a few selections of interesting goals that didn't make the top 40.

Take a look at the responses below for some ideas, then decide on your own goals!

1. Learn how to...
#1. Learn how to speak Spanish
Learning new things has always been popular with Day Zero participants. Languages are always popular, but this year the desire to knit has once again hit the number one spot!

The most popular languages all showed up in the top 100 results: Spanish, French, Italian, German, Japanese, Russian, Arabic, Madarin, Korean, Tagalog, Chinese, Turkish and Croation
2. Start...
#1. Start exercising regularly
Health and fitness goals once again dominate the things you wanted to start doing this year. 26 out of the top 40 relate to exercising or eating better.

New Year's resolutions are frequently about getting rid of bad habits. A lot of these goals are about cleaning up bad eating habits - fast food, chocolate, soda, junk food and other snacks.

#1. Take a vacation to Europe
Day Zero has participants from all over the world, so it's interesting to see where it is that you want to vacation.

Last year's top goal destination was Europe, this year it is Italy in the number one spot.
5. Find...
#1. Find love
What are you looking for? Last year it was a new hobby in the number one position, this year you are looking for a new job!

#1. Try yoga
This is the question that always receives the widest variety of answers. Some of these goals are small things you never dared to try, such as sushi, and others are more daring and adventurous - such as skydiving or bungee jumping.
7. Be more...
#1. Be more creative
This prompt was designed to help you think of one word to describe the attitude you wanted to take into the new year. There are some great responses here - I like to think these words all describe the Day Zero community!
