30 September 2022 - completed the Santa’s Black Bear Cabin set of six Christmas tree ornaments - mostly at the start of my maternity leave!
15 September 2022 - completed the set of three Christmas bird ornaments - very bling for our Christmas tree!
16 August 2022 - I completed the Halloween wreath.
Tues 6 September 2022 (Osian’s last day before starting school full-time) we went to Parc Play and Osian loved playing outdoors in the big sandpit with the diggers.
Wednesday 6 July 2022 - I finally had a balayage! Courtesy of Cwtch in Whitchurch, Cardiff. A nice, subtle start to lightening my hair!
Thursday 7 July 2022 - I’ve just finished the set of Halloween ornaments (for the little Halloween tree I bought in Tesco last year)!
29.06.2022 I’ve since completed this. Have used: Superdrug plex hair treatment (good!), Bleach beer mask (very good, just don’t use too much!), Superdrug mint and watermelon (not bad, better than expected), Superdrug mallow (ok-ish, could have been better) and at the weekend will finish Superdrug banana mask (ok, could have been better though).
29.06.2022 - I’ve changed this goal to make 10 bucilla kits, rather than cross stitch. So far, I’ve completed 3:
- candy express train Christmas stocking for Osian
- Santa down the chimney wall hanging
- Nordic Christmas tree advent calendar
And I have two more in progress!

And I have two more in progress!
29.06.2022 - baby number two! A few weeks ago now, I completed a block of 6 pregnancy yoga classes online. This takes my total up to 20 now!
Sunday 1st August 2021 - used up an 125ml bottle of Midnight Bloom. I bought this one from Co-op last autumn and gave it a go for a bit then. I liked it to start with, the jasmine is nice, but I found it too strong and a bit headache inducing. I left the rest of the bottle to use up when Osian started using the potty. I still find it strong, but the afterscent it leaves for a while is nice. I also tried this with some towels I washed, but it didn’t seem to leave behind a scent which was surprising. This would have been nice, if it wasn’t so strong. It makes me feel almost glad that I lost my boots card when I’d got enough points to buy some Alien perfume (which this smells like).
Tuesday 27th July 2021 - used up a bottle of Squalane. Not my favourite product I’ve tried so far. I found that this just seemed to ‘sit’ on my skin, rather than absorb in. I only needed two drops each time (three if I was washing my hair in the morning, just to help get through the bottle) so it took a while to get through. It made my skin look a bit greasy in the day, especially as it went on. As I’ve been working from home the whole time, I’ve been able to put up with it. If I’d have been working in the office, I wouldn’t have bothered with this at all for daytime. I tried this on my dry knees for about a week when I couldn’t get to the rest of the bottle with the pipette. I wanted to dry this on really dry skin to see if it was more suited to that. In a week, it didn’t really help my knees that much, my usual moisturiser did a better job. I wouldn’t buy the Squalane again, but I would like to try the Hemi-Squalane sometime as that would probably work better for me.
Sunday 8 July 2021 - not been great at keeping this one up to date, but I’ve completed this one. Places I’ve been to for tea (and this includes before lockdown are): Little Man Coffee Co (this was pre-Osian!), Hoffi Coffee (been a few times when I was working in CP2 during my dinner break), Metchy’s (been a few times before lockdown), the I Want to Ride My Bike Cafe (also been a few times when I was back from work after maternity leave). Last week (Tues 27 July) I finally went to Jaspers in Llandaf with Osian - loved it there, will have to go back lots!
Sunday 18 July 2021 - used an 125ml bottle of Rhubarb and Bergamot. I bought this in autumn last year from Tesco, not long after it was out. I used it for a bit in the autumn, but stopped as I wanted to use my winter scents. I really liked this one, it’s lovely with the rhubarb! Not too strong either, just right. It reminds me a bit of the J’Adore perfume that Laura S used to wear in the early 2000s (or how it used to smell on her - strange as the notes aren’t similar). It’s a nice scent to use for the spring/early summer time. Even Nick said that this Zoflora wasn’t that bad, which is praise indeed! This is my 15th bottle of Zoflora used up! Only seems like yesterday since I wanted to give these ago last year in LD1 and started to grow my stash! I have quite a stash now, so a lot to get through, but I’ve decided, to be on the safe side that for the time being, I’ll just be using it to clean the potties with each day.
Sunday 11 July 2021 - made this pie from the Women’s Weekly cookery book recipe - first time making this pie since Cogan days!
Saturday 26th June 2021 - used up a 250ml bottle of Lemon Zing. This has only been in my stash a short while, I picked it up from Tesco about a month ago or so. I actually could have bought this as one of the first few bottles of Zoflora ever, but at the time I just didn’t fancy it. A lemon cleaning product is a bit pedestrian - you can easily get them, so nothing special (think of Jif, although I actually used to love the smell of that when I was a kid!). Anyway, I’ve been intrigued by this, but thought it was probably more of a bathroom sort of scent (or maybe kitchen) so I thought I could give it a go to clean the potty with. It’s alright, definitely a bathroom scent. It smells a bit lemongrassy to me as well, but it could be the ginger that’s in there. Somehow, it also smells a bit chalky to me. Not one of my favourite Zofloras, but not my least favourite one either. I probably would buy again, but only really to use in the bathroom. This was another Zoflora I ended up using up by cleaning the nappy pail with.
Wednesday 9 June 2021 - used up an 125ml bottle of Hello Spring. I still really like this scent (and have another for next spring from Tesco) and enjoy using it. Somehow, this spring, I’ve ended up slightly preferring springtime to this.
Saturday 5th June 2021 - used up a 500ml (!) bottle of Mountain Air. I bought this from Concord in Whitchurch in September last year. I’ve used it up in different ways: in the sink (back when I first liked it!), in the washing with towels (when I didn’t like it so much, my hands were really rough, I don’t know whether this played a role, but now I don’t use it, they’re so much better), in Osian’s potties and I accidentally used a load up in one go when soaking the nappy pail. So, I did really like this Zoflora at the start and even though I went off it over time, there’s something I like a bit in this scent at the start. It’s pretty strong and a bit bathroom disinfectant smelling. I think for a green-wintery Zoflora, that Sparkling Spruce is much nicer than this one. I wouldn’t buy this again. It’s probably not the scent I dislike most so far, but I don’t particularly like it.
May 2021 - used up my second 125ml bottle of Springtime from my first ever Zoflora order last spring. I still really like this scent, it’s perfect for the spring. This year I’ve actually preferred this to Hello Spring! It’s a lovely green scent, I hope I can get a small bottle for next spring to enjoy again.
March 2021 - used up an 125ml bottle of Winter Morning (2nd bottle used up over the winter!). Two more left of this which I’ll enjoy using this winter.
Sunday 23 May 2021 - used up a tub of Maui Moisture vanilla bean mask. I only bought this because of the vanilla scent. It does smell nice and leaves a scent on the hair, but it’s not as nice as i’d expected. It’s more of a sweet candy-floss vanilla. I used this as a pre-shampoo mask, as using it after shampoo just left my hair too greasy. It did leave my hair soft, although I’ve used better masks. It wasn’t the best or worst mask, I probably wouldn’t buy it again.
Sunday 7th February - used up another (my second now, one more to go) of Country Garden. Mostly to freshen the food waste bin, which it does well as it’s such a strong scent. I probably don’t dislike this Zoflora as much as I used to, but it’s not a favourite, there’s a camphor sort of note that ruins it for me. Will probably use up my last bottle of this in with the towel wash to antibac them during the pandemic, as it would probably be alright in the washing (the strong ones I haven’t liked so far have been fine for that).
Sunday 7th February 2021 - used up an 120ml bottle of Sparkling Spruce - beautiful! I managed to pick up a small bottle of this in Tesco back in November and was really happy to have the chance to try this (I did have a 500ml bottle of this in September in Llanishen B&M, but whilst I was in the queue, Nick and Osian were out of the opticians, so I left it behind). I also think there might have been a small bottle of this back when I bought my first three bottles in Tesco last year, but I overlooked it because I thought it would smell of bathroom cleaner. How wrong I was! This is one of the nicest scents I’ve used so far, just a lovely green foresty scent. I’ve never had a real Christmas tree to know if this smells like it or not, but it probably does. To me, it also has a slight hint of a wood log fireplace burning, which I also enjoy, but maybe that’s just me? I’ll need another bottle of this next winter and every winter from now on. If I see a 500ml bottle later this year, I’ll have it (but will also keep stalking the cleaning aisle in Tesco to see if they get the small bottles back in!).
Wednesday 20th January 2021 - used up a bottle of Hyaluronic acid & B5. I ordered this with a few bits from boots and had high hopes for it, even though some of the reviews for it weren’t great. I once used an eye cream with hyaluronic acid in it and had really good results with it, so was really keen to give this a go. At first I quite liked it, it didn’t cake up on my face when I put my make up on over it (so long as I just used three drops of it, any more and it did cake up). I found after a while though that it made my skin look drier, my forehead wrinkles especially looked worse when using this. I did use it up. One small mercy is that it doesn’t take long to get through a bottle of this. It’s got a gloopy texture, so you get a lot in each drop, compared with the oil or water-based products. I did look online and apparently in some people hyaluronic acid can draw out the skin’s moisture in some people and I think I’m probably one of those, so I won’t be buying this again. I’ve got the Superdrug version of this serum, so I’ll give that a go as there might be better hyaluronic acid’s than the ordinary’s. Applying it on damp skin might also help, so will give that a go.
Sunday 17 January 2021 - used up a rub of Naughty to the rescue mask. I used to use these products in my late 20s when I think they were called Naked and used to use one of their hair masks on a Saturday morning when we were in West Road. They had more plastic packaging then, so it’s nice to see brands get smarter about that now. I found out not to use too much of this mask as I’d end up with greasy hair. A little goes a long way, so although it seemed slightly expensive when I bought it, it was actually good value because one tub lasted a long time. The smell was alright too. It was fine on my hair, not the best mask I’ve ever used but not the worst either.
September 2020 - used up Superdrug’s R-Plex treatment (the kit had a shampoo, conditioner and leave in mask). It’s a cheap copy of Olia Plex and I really liked it, the first time I used it, I couldn’t believe how soft it made my hair feel. After I used it a few times in a row, my hair did get a bit greasy, so I used it as a weekly treatment. Really good stuff, I’d buy it again.
Tuesday 19th January 2021 - used up a 120ml bottle of Warm Cinnamon. I only bought this bottle because it was in a three-pack with Cranberry and Orange, which is the scent I was more keen to try. I ended up liking this one a lot more! It’s not my favourite of the festive scents that I’ve tried (Winter Morning and Sparkling Spruce) but it’s still very nice. I thought it might be a bit like Cinnamon Aftershock so I didn’t have particularly high expectations for it, but I was pleasantly surprised. This smells sweet, a baking kind of smell because of the vanilla. It reminds me of a cinnamon foot cream I used to use in my early-mid 20s from lush that was really warming because of the cinnamon. I’d buy a small bottle of this again, once I’ve got my stash a lot more under control ( it’s slowly getting there...).
Sunday 10th January 2021 - used up a 30ml tube of the vitamin C and hyaluronic acid (serum?). I don’t know about this one. I’ve used it a few times each week since late summer, mixed in with my nighttime moisturiser. It’s not as bad as some of the reviews made me think it would be, but it’s not a standout product from what I’ve used so far. It does sting when I first started using it (it felt like cystitis on the face!) but after a few uses the stinging wasn’t that noticeable. I think it does perk my skin up a bit, but after a while it didn’t seem to make that much of a difference. It does dry a bit crusty, which is a bit off-putting. It’s ok, might consider buying it again, depending on how I get on with their other products.
Monday 11 January 2021 - used up an 120ml bottle of festive fireside. This was one of the first three bottles of Zoflora I bought at Tesco last year a month or so into lockdown (when I was trying be restrained - ha! - now look at my stash of plenty!). I was intrigued by this one and didn’t know if it had been discontinued so went for it. I was looking forward to the weather turning colder to give it a go, so I started this bottle back in September. I thought it was ok when I first used it. I didn’t dislike it but nor did I really like it. I did go through a phase of using it in the sink, but then realised that it wasn’t as bad as all that, so I used it up in my spray bottles. To me, this isn’t that smoky which I was disappointed by as I do like a smoky bonfire smell! I can mostly smell orange and cloves from this, which is ok. Once I’ve got my stash under control, I might get another small bottle of this for one Christmas. It’s not my favourite of the Christmas scents, but it’s also not the worst either. I like the idea of this one, especially in our bland fruity-floral scents kind of world. Something else I noticed about this one was that it somehow smelt better during the colder weather, so more of a winter scent, rather than autumn before it gets cold. I can’t believe I’ve now used 10 bottles of Zoflora!
- Thursday 24 December 2020 - used up an 120ml bottle of Country Garden with today’s towel wash. This Zoflora was part of my first online order earlier this year. I’ve got two more small bottles to use up of this. I was convinced from the website description that this would be a favourite of mine, but I was so disappointed with it when I first used it earlier this year! There’s something in there that I don’t like that I think smells a bit camphoraceous and that spoils it for me. It also reminds me of the smell of a branch of Savers, somehow! I like Savers, but not so much that I want my home to smell like it! It’s a strong smelling Zoflora and what I’m finding so far is that I don’t get on great with the stronger scents, so that’s part of it. I didn’t attempt to use this again in a spray bottle once I finished the first bottle I made up. I’ve used up my first bottle by adding a splash to the food waste bin, cleaning Osian’s potty when we had a go at training and for the last of the bottle, in the washing machine. It works alright in the food waste because it’s a strong scent. Same with adding it to my washing, the towels and microfibre cloths smell really nice. The Zofloras I don’t like and use in the machine all seem to work really well with washing. I’ll use up my other two bottles for odds and ends, but unless I end up really liking this Zoflora, I won’t be buying it again!
Friday 18 December 2010 - used up a 120ml bottle of Spiced Plum. How this one changed for me and not in a good way! This bottle was part of my Zoflora order of plenty (really, the new scents) and was the first one I used from that stash. I really liked this on my first use, was really struck by it and it wasn’t spicy smelling like I thought it would be. A few uses later and it reminded me of the Body Shop’s Dewberry and giving me all the 1994 Christmas feels! Good memories of a gift basket Aunty Ann got me that Christmas (or was it Christmas 1993? Maybe it was, when I was 12). Took me back to Stowmarket Middle School days and made me so nostalgic! I used it another week and was ‘hit’ by the patchouli note (it smells very strong and similar to the one in Angel perfume) and that’s all I get from this now, sadly. It just turns my stomach. I’ve used the bottle up by adding it in to loads of towels on the washing machine. I wouldn’t buy this one again.
- Wednesday 2 December 2020 - used up a bottle of the full coverage foundation in the fair/neutral shade. I’ve been using this foundation everyday since just before the first lockdown and am really impressed with how well it lasted. The bottle looks piddly, but the other foundations I’ve used are also 30mls of product, just in bottles that look bigger. I got on well with this foundation. Good coverage and didn’t cake. A very reasonable price too. I’d buy this again, maybe give the pink-toned fair shade a go. I’d also be interested to see how it manages with a day of the commute and office air con,
Thursday 10 December 2020 - used up a 120ml bottle of Winter Morning. A favourite! I ordered three bottles of this in my first Zoflora order as I knew I’d really like this and it did not disappoint. It’s lovely! I started using this in September once the weather turned cold and have pretty much used it weekly from then on. It’s my weekend Zoflora of choice because it’s so nice! To start with this reminded me of the smell outside the Yankee Candle shop in the old part of St David’s shopping centre (or could it be the Yankee candle shop in Fareham?). It’s a cinnamon, vanilla, biscuitty, red apple sort of smell. Now I don’t associate that with the Yankee shop smell, I see it as Winter Morning loveliness. I don’t think I get that biscuity smell from this anymore now. I’m going to open another bottle of this as I like it that much and still have three small bottles left. Winter lasts into February so I’ll still be needing to make the most of it with this.
- Tuesday 1 December 2020 - used up a bottle of Amino Acids & B5. I used this during the daytime, underneath my moisturiser. I’d use it again, it’s easily absorbed and would make a good lightweight hydrator for the spring/summer months. I’ve got other hydrators from The Ordinary to try, but I think this is a good one.
Sunday 22 November 2020 - used up a 100ml bottle of Orange and Cranberry with my towel wash (which gives an idea of my thoughts on this one...).
So I had high hopes for this Christmas zoflora, out of all the Christmas scents after Winter Morning, I was really keen to try this one. I actually ordered a three-pack of the Christmas scents, just so I could try this (the other two were Winter Morning and Warm Cinnamon - as if I need more Zoflora!). I wasn’t that impressed with it at the start, I thought it was bearable, but there was something in there I wasn’t too keen on. It smells as if there’s some spices and I think that’s what I don’t like. I used it as a spray a few times, but as there’s other winter and Christmas scents I like much better than this, I decided to use it up in the sink after cooking, a little in the food waste and a good few capfuls went in the machine. Strangely, I quite liked the smell of my towels when I opened the door, it just gives a hint of this and that was alright. Strange how the Zofloras I’m not fussed on and use in the machine are much more bearable that way. Anyway, for a Zoflora I don’t like that much, I’m surprised how quickly I used up this bottle. I wouldn’t buy it again.

Friday 25 September 2020 - used up a small bottle of Tropical Twist today. I was so chuffed to find this in our local chemist as I was intrigued by this scent. I started using it quite late on in the summer and have finished it after trying some newer/more autumnal scents for the last few weeks. I thought I’d use this up though whilst we had a week or so of sunshine. So I really liked this Zoflora scent! It’s very different to the others I’ve tried so far which have been more floral or green scents. This was just a fun, frivolous scent! It reminded me a bit of a cocktail I used to have when I was either in Mauritius or Sri Lanka, probably Mauritius though. It’s the coconut and pineapple! It’s a good memory to be reminded of and a nice mood booster! I also liked the vanilla in this scent too. I’d definitely use this Zoflora again!
31 August 2020 - This is finally in progress! I bought some Pom-pom looms whilst I was on maternity leave during winter 2018, but didn’t get round to buying the wool until a few weeks ago (thank you, Concord Express, Whitchurch!). Have made a load of Pom-poms and probably still need to make even more. Also still need to get the actual wreath and stuff to stick them on with. For now, making the Pom-poms is very therapeutic...
- Sunday 30 August - used up a bottle of EUK 134 - mysteriously named, this was alright. It sunk into my skin nicely, so fine to use in the morning under makeup. I like the idea of using an antioxidant daily, but I think I preferred the Pycnogenol to this, as it made my skin feel a bit nicer than this. I think the EUK 134 might have helped a bit with redness and possibly I might have noticed more of a difference from it if I hadn’t have using the Pycnogrnol before. I’d still consider buying it again at some point, but there’s other products I’d like to give a go first.
- June 2020 - used up a bottle of the caffeine eye gel. Really liked this on my dark eye circles and the ‘tightening’ feeling it gave me around the eyes, which somehow made me feel more awake in those lockdown mornings. I’d buy this again.
Monday 17 August 2020 - used up the last of my Aber Falls violet gin liqueur. This is so beautiful to drink. Not so much parma violets, but lightly floral, violets growing in the wild. I’ll need another bottle of this at some point - a real favourite!
Tuesday 18 August 2020 - finished a small bottle of Hello Spring! from my first order. A favourite so far, a pretty floral scent that’s light and a bit green as well, although I wasn’t that taken with it when I first used it. I’m looking forward to using my other bottle next spring, it’s a lovely scent to welcome the spring with. To me, the scent smells like the colour coral, rather than the mint green of the packaging.
Friday 31 July - used up a 250ml bottle of Secret Garden. This was one of the three bottles of Zoflora that I bought from Tesco when we were just a few weeks into lockdown. I bought this as I love the novel of the same name, like garden scents and that some of the money goes to Caudwell Children, a worthy cause. I tried this as an antibac spray, but wasn’t that bothered about it. I didn’t completely dislike it, but I felt there was just too much going on with this scent. It’s a very loud fruity-floral. I’d probably have liked the floral component by itself and the same for the fruity element. But, together it was too much. I used this up by adding a capful to a wash of towels and a little in our food waste kitchen caddy to keep it smelling fresh. I wouldn’t buy this again, but applaud Zoflora for making a charity scent even though I wish it was one I liked more than this concoction.
Thursday 30 July 2020 - used up a small bottle of Springtime from my online order. This has been one of my favourites so far, a lovely ‘green’ smell that smells just like the outside. Very calming but somehow fresh smelling too. I’m glad that I’ve got another small bottle of this stashed away to use next spring. I’ll be looking forward to cracking that open to welcome the spring, my favourite time of the year!
Saturday 11 July 2020 - used up my bottle of Lidl Hortus raspberry gin liqueur. Nothing special as I couldn’t taste much from it, not a strong flavour to this one so probably wouldn’t buy again.
Friday 10 July - finished up my bottle of Plum and Vanilla by the Edinburgh Gin Company. I really enjoyed this when I bought it a year ago or so from Llanishen Morrisons, but somehow it’s not quite so nice as I remember it being then (but still nice though!). I wonder whether it ‘goes off’ a little over time? Gorgeous Art Deco-style bottle and they have lots of other interesting flavoured liqueurs that I’d like to try sometime. I wonder whether they’re best drunk sooner rather than later once the bottle’s opened though?
Friday 19 June 2020 - finished a bottle of Lidl’s Hortus Rose and Pomegranate gin liqueur. This one grew on me! I wasn’t that keen to start with, but this is refreshing as a summer drink and is something a bit different so I’d buy it again.
- May 2020 - made Saag Paneer from the baby-led weaning cookbook (have made this a few times before now)
- May 2020 - used up a bottle of Twilight Garden (one of my first three bottles!) smells too strong and a bit synthetic (I think it’s the amber and musk base I don’t like). However, it did grow on me a bit and was quite nice to use for washing towels, but I wouldn’t buy this one again.
- May 2020 - used up a bottle of Pycnogenol (an antioxidant treatment, made my skin feel soft, from French maritime pine trees, who decides that would be good to use as skincare?! I’d buy again though)
- March 2020 - used up a bottle of Argrilene (didn’t know it was a topical Botox when I ordered it) maybe it worked a bit, but probably wouldn’t buy again
Friday 3 April 2020 - buying chilli sauce isn’t really a ‘thing’ for me anymore - so I’ve decided this is completed!
February 2020 - went to the Play Barn in Stonham Barns, Suffolk
January 2020 - went to the Play Loft in Whitchurch

Thursday 2 April 2020 - made pearl barley, rice, carrot and carrot pilaf
Wednesday 1 March 2020 - made pearl barley, feta, pea and mint stew (really, more of a risotto)
Friday 19 April 2019 (Good Friday) - I had an advent calendar for the first time in years for the run up to Christmas 2018 from Lidl (some days had a champagne truffle!) so this goal is also complete
Friday 19 April 2019 (Good Friday) - this is a goal that I should have marked as completed two years ago. I still wear jeans, all through my pregnancy and beyond
Friday 19 April - have watched loads of foreign language TV series (mostly on my maternity leave!): series 3 of the Killing, Shtisel, Deutschland 83 and am on Deutschland 86. Also watched series 2 of Trapped (watched series 1 a while ago now). Also, the last series of the Bridge a week before I had Osian. Also series 1 of Bordertown. Loads - I’ve exceeded this goal!
Friday 19 April 2019 (Good Friday) - I still keep a reading journal and absolutely love keeping it
Friday 19 April 2019 - have a bottle of Hortus Rhubarb and Ginger gin liqueur in the go, it’s lovely (and there I was thinking that I didn’t like gin for the last 19 years!)
So, February 2019 was a month of letter writing for me and I loved it! Have had some lovely letters back and I’m just starting to reply to those.
