Book nine was Galileo's Daughter by Dava Sobel, recommended by Denise. I finished that a few days ago. Book ten was A Fine Balance by Rohinton Mistry, recommended by Rahnee. I just finished it (5/24/12). Galileo's Daughter was quite good; A Fine Balance was a very difficult book to read. Tragedy piled upon tragedy.
Book eight was The Elegance of the Hedgehog by Muriel Barbery. Loved it. Recommended to me by Lisa Schiffren. Finished it on 5/13/12.
4. Erasing Hell by Francis Chan and Preston Sprinkle 5/10/12
Finished Emma -- glorious Emma! -- on 4/20/12.
Finished Mansfield Park on 3/23/12.
I finished this book, by the way, on 3/14/12.
I read Persuasion and finished it on 3/12/12.
Book seven was Of Bees and Mist and was recommended by Abby Jarvis. It's an unusual book -- not for everyone. Reminiscent of Gregory Maguire's work. I liked it.
For purposes of this challenge, that would be three trips.
The first book, recommended by both Bob Evans and Bob Carter (and, implicitly, John Piper and just about everybody else who's read it) is The Road by Cormac McCarthy. Started it on 1/4/12. Okay -- finished it on 1/4/12, too. Hated it -- it's SO depressing!!! BUT -- one book down!

Finished book two on 2/11/12. I read The History of Love: A Novel by Nicole Krauss. My sister-in-law, Carol, recommended it. It was fabulous. Sad and beautiful, but the beauty is bigger than the sadness.
(Spend it at the end of 1001 days!!!)
(For a total of 34 books.)
Oh -- Elaine recommended this. Which sort of breaks my heart.
Book six was one of the most horrible books I have ever read. Winter's Bone by Daniel Woodrell. I finished this depressing, awful, nasty, depressing book on 3/5/12.
Book five was Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer. Touching book; it reminded me very much of Catcher in the Rye. I liked it very much. Finished it on 3/5/12.
Book four was A Severe Mercy by Sheldon Vanauken, recommended by Bruce Kirby. Fabulous, wonderful book. Finished on 3/3/12.
3. Chosen by God by R. C. Sproul; finished on 3/1/12. FABULOUS book!!!
Book three was How It All Began by Penelope Lively. Barbarann Fernandez recommended it. I finished it on 2/24/12 and loved it. Delightful story.
I finished William Faulkner's Light in August on 2/21/12.
2. Spectacular Sins by John Piper; finished on 2/14/12
1. One Thousand Gifts by Ann Voskamp; finished on 2/10/12
I accomplished this the first month: January 2012.
