I haven't celebrated my birthday in years, for a lot of personal reasons-- and this year I successfully managed it by avoiding it. I still didn't celebrate my birthday, which is on June 12.
But June 13 was one of my days off, and I decided to just make it a "Special Day." No party, no friends, no expectations. Just me and whatever I wanted to do.
I slept in, gave myself a facial steam and charcoal mask before my shower, and then went to do something I have *always* wanted to try-- a sensory deprivation float tank. It was incredible, one of the most relaxing experiences I've ever had. Afterwards I went for lunch, grilled shrimp and mojitos. On the way home I used my bday reward for free iced coffee at my fave cafe.
When I got home, I went straight into my PJs, laid out a bunch of appetizers and sweets I'd picked up beforehand-- strawberry cocktails, olive cheese bread, chicken salad croissants, champagne-infused sugared strawberries, macarons, nuts, a huge one-person strawberry cupcake-- put on my favorite stupid comedies, and spent the night just noshing and laughing and having a fun, relaxing evening. It was absolutely fantastic and I can't wait to do it again next year.
