Yushan (mountain)
Yushan is the highest mountain in Taiwan and the fourth highest mountain on an island. Earlier, at the times when few Taiwanese could speak English, it was known among the expats, mostly missionaries, as Mt. Morrison, thought to have been named so in honor of the 19th century missionary Robert Morrison. After the Taiwanese have begun to assert themselves in the English language discourse on the island, the mountain has been referred to almost exclusively as Yu Shan.
