Every tourist gets pointed to the Powell Street – Hyde St. Pier line. For my wooden nickel, taking the 1-California line down and up the hill gives as splendid a view; it's a commuter line morning and evening and folks are cheerful. Besides you can stop and walk the labyrinth(s) at Grace Cathedral and look at the views from that park, before coming downtown again. Then if you want to see the historic ships at Hyde St. Pier, take the historic F Muni line around the Embarcadero to there. Enjoy!

The San Francisco cable car system is the world's last manually operated cable car system. An icon of San Francisco, California, the cable car system forms part of the intermodal urban transport network operated by the San Francisco Municipal Railway, or "Muni" as it is better known.
