https://kirstywhite33.wordpress.com/2022/07/28/finding-new-music/

I ran through some of the challenges in my last blog with my DJ son and he’s come up with enough bands to complete both the A-Z of new music and 31 days of new music. Every day in August I am going to listen to a minimum of 1 song. Not the most taxing of challenges but it’s fun, it’s something new and I’m really pleased one of my family joined in. He’s now trying to do something similar for his radio show. This makes me so happy. All the bands are a variation of roc & metal. I’ve listed them below in case anyone wishes to listen to something new themselves. There are 2 or 3 to choose from in each alphabet category:

A – Asking Alexandria (Alter Bridge, Architects, Amaranthe)
B – Breaking Benjamin (Bullet For My Valentine, Bowling For Soup)
C – Children of Bodom (Coheed and Cambria, Clutch)
D – Dream Theater (Dead Sara, Digital Summer, Dead by April)
E – Enter Shikari (Extreme, Eyes Set to Kill, Electric Callboy)
F – From First to Last (Fozzy, Faith No More, Fever 333)
G – Ghost (God Forbid, Gojira)
H – Halestorm (The HU, HammerFall, Hardcore Superstar)
I – Ice Nine Kills (In Flames, I Am Ghost)
J – Jinjer (Judas Priest, Jupiter Falls)
K – Kill Hannah (Kontrust, Killswitch Engage, Killer Be Killed)
L – Love and Death (Lamb of God, Light the Torch)
M – Mastodon (Mudvayne, Machine Head, Machinae Supremacy)
N – Nightwish (New Found Glory, Nekonomicon)
O – Of Mice & Men (Opeth, ONI)
P – Parkway Drive (Powerwolf, Periphery)
Q – Queensryche (Queens of the Stone Age, Quiet Riot)
R – Rivers of Nihil (Rammstein, Rush, Rise Against)
S – Sixx:AM (Sabaton, Sevendust, Seether)
T – Tyr (Trivium, Tremonti, Taking Back Sunday)
U – Udo Dirkschneider/U.D.O. (The Used, Underoath)
V – Vains of Jenna (Volbeat, Van Canto)
W – W.A.S.P. (Within Temptation, The Wildhearts)
X – X-Japan (The xx)
Y – Yngwie Malmsteen (Young Guns)
Z – Zebrahead (Zac Brown Band. ZZ Top)

That’s the 26 letters of the alphabet. For the remaining 5 we are using bands with numbers in their names and will choose from these:

10 Years,

12 Stones,

36 Crazyfists,

38 Special,

3 Inches of Blood,

311,

30 SECONDS TO MARS

alternative band

i have heard of them before and heard some of their songs but never looked into them til now. i like them. they have some cool louder more vibrant songs then calmer stranger ones. but they are pretty cool except for the songs where it is just random background music and no lyrics, that annoys me. 3.65/5

JOHN POWELL

he is a composer for movies including: ice age, the lorax, kung fu panda, how to train your dragon, happy feet, evolution, xmen, bourne identity and supremacy and many more.

he has done the music that for some of my favourite movies and the background music sets the tone, feel and connection with the film so he is awesome. 5/5

BLISS N ESO

hip hop/rap and theyre aussie! 4.5/5

alternative band indie folk band from iceland

4.9/5

i recently heard of them within the previous two months after their hit 'little talks'. looking into them i like their different feel. it is calming with a calming burst of originality and the feeling of true absract artistic expressionism through their songs.

WALK THE MOON

alternative indie rock band from ohio

3.85/5 it is nice to listen to i just dont 'click' with it but it is still good :)

MUTEMATH

alternative rock band from new orleans usa.

4.85/5

i feel like ive heard their songs before but i dont recall ever hearing the name of the band. i really like them! it clicks and they have a soft rock backing accompanied by softer lyrics.

4th january

SCOUTING FOR GIRLS

pop band

3.85/5 they are pretty good except for a few speech accents i dont like and they repeat some words a couple of times in a row during a few songs which is one of the main reasons i hate the generic mainstream music these days. kinda has a background beat like the wombats songs...

kinda starting to like it less and less as i listen... could be the touchy pissed off mood im in...

SMALL MERCIES

rock band originated in brisbane. aussies represent!

4.9/5 i really like its beat and fast paced guitar and backbeat tone. soothing in my pissed of mood. sounds like they're about to go into screamo but they dont and i like the fact that they dont cross that dreadful line. loving it the more i listen. feels kinda classic and reminds me of the movie 'rock of ages'

and just for fun DEAN GEYER

hot aussie boy found on australian idol. i already know of him but i love him so i thought id add it :) 5/5 :)

FOREIGNER

new york rock band started in the 70s still going strong

4.75/5 they sing juke box hero!!! out of rock of ages!! instant love. they are rock and upbeat and just have a pumped fun classic rock age feel that fills the air...

i dont know if it's cheating considering ive heard of them before now......
3rd january

THE SUNDANCE KIDS

an aussie rock band from adelaide

4.25/5 im getting a good first impression of great songs you can just have there as backgroud music with a calming tone to keep you awake during the slums of homework oppression.

BEN HOWARD

a pommy singer songwriter

a really soothing voice and tone that allows you to just flow and go into a state of relaxation and just float in the pool of sound.

3.75/5

SPIRIT

an american jazz/rock/psychadelic band formed in the 60s

3.25 i like some of the songs but some are off. (fav song 'animal zoo')

2nd january

CHICAGO

american pop rock/ jazz fusion band

3.5/5 smooth sort of jazzy rock that is easy listening. an older band with a relaxed feel and a pinch of psychadelicness.

DAN ENGLAND

pop genre queenslander dicovered on australian idol.

4.5/5 good beat for song to keep you in a 'happy and relaxed yet ready to get up and be active if need be' mood.

1st january 2013

YOUNG THE GIANT

an alternative music band - american indie rock band

3/5 i like them for smooth music with some attitude with it for easy and relaxing listening but the sound may be just the slightest bit off... probably depends on my mood

DAKONA

alternative band from canada

3.75/5 they have a more upbeat and calmly sense with good lyrics but some songs i dont like and in my mood i just found it painful to listen too.

3/1: The temper trap
I think this was probably so far the goal that I liked the most. It became such a part of my routine and gave me some "me" time, just relaxing and listening to my music which I LOVE LOVE LOVE. I still (almost daily) mentally remind myself to do this, even if I'm not keeping track, or at least I think about doing it.
