I helped Katie make play dough for one of Luke's presents. It was surprisingly easy and fun.
Made homemade rolls completely from scratch
I plan to road trip it to the Montana beast in May
1/5 - Went to the children's museum in Everett with Luke for New Year's
I finally managed to get the cross stitching done, just need to do the finishing touches. I think I might be able to finish by this year.
I still have a number of bulbs to plant, but we have some prep work still. I started clearing the weeds from the selected area, and just need to focus on staying on top of the weeding. However, the Ice Cream variety need to be in a planter, and our planter was still good so I just put the bulbs in the planter.
6/6 - I snapped a picture of the Sonic screw driver, some peanut butter, Pippa, some Thomas the Tank Engine Train fabric (because it had trains for T and I bought it for our son), and an origami crane (because Katie taught me how to fold them, and the flower is in a box).
I wrote the letter - I am going to sit on it a day or two before I print and send it just to make sure I said everything I want to say and that I said it how I want to say it.
We found a great farm that has u-pick apples, as well as a pumpkin patch and fun activities and food, and went to it. The U-pick was over, so we checked out their pre-picked apple selection. The apples had been well picked over so we did not actually get any apples out of the venture, but it was a lot of fun anyway and we got a super cool pumpkin from it.
Tulips arrived yesterday, so I just need to get them in the ground.
Unfortunately the cost is currently prohibitive for me to actually finish the renewal, but I have filled out as much of the form as possible, and as soon as we have the money to spare I will send it in.
I put the message in the bottle and sealed it up back last March...I have no idea what it said any more or if I included any contact information, but I threw it as hard as I could off the end of a peer and hope it ends up some where exotic.
We had some delicious food at the beach with my parents.
It was a very simple fort, but I put together a nice little blanket fort for my son. He was not so sure at first, but really enjoyed it once he had checked it out.
Note added to goal Leave 10 inspirational notes inside books for someone to find
I picked ten great quotes and left them in random books at the local library. I hope the people who find them feel inspired!
I made my postcard out of a printed image and sheet of sticky paper...felt weird making it and writing the secret down.
I picked a really pretty clear balloon with leaves printed on it...I kind of wish I could have kept it.
Om nom nom...that is all.
I picked out the recipe and have the ingredients...now just to make them!
10/10 - added Andromeda, Aquarius, Aries, Cancer, Canis Majoris, Cassiopia, Corona Borealis, Hercules.
It was better than I expected...I could see it being used as a broth.
Took Lukey to the zoo on my day off. He was tired because of festivities yesterday, but had a blast. I did too.
I did some guerrilla tree trimming to remove some low hanging branches of a tree on our walk.
Made some nice fresh zucchini bread (in the bread machine), using a zucchini harvested from our garden.
Actually planted this earlier in the year, just forgot it was on my list! We planted a number of delicious things that produced pretty good so far.
Finally got everything done and had the titles transferred into my name - I now own both cars, which is exciting, though intimidating for being responsible for it.
Minor hiccup - apparently the cars both need an emissions check...soon they will be in our name!
I actually build part of a fence and a gate. There were definitely a few slip ups, but it looks good and largely does what it needs too (though I mounted the gate a little too high and the puppy can slip out...).
I did my best - admittedly I did not train sufficiently for the event, and as such threw my back out half way through...but I tried and did as much as I could (and next year I will complete!).
Note added to goal Finish writing another 101 things list by the end of 1001 days
I actually have too many things on the new list, but that means I completed the list and it is future me's problem to deal with reducing the list before it commences (slash I might decide to temporarily leave too many with the idea of narrowing it down over the first few months - since I have a no substitution goal on the list!)
I wrote the full engine for a number of casino style games for our app system at work.
Although it could use some improvement in coding style (to be made more generic and such), I wrote the server component for an inventory control system that is planned to replace the current system at work.
Note added to goal Write an annual letter to myself on my birthday to open on my birthday
I finally managed to write this (though I have misplaced the original print out I had, so I might need to reprint it)...I do not know what I said, but I do know I finished it in May, so it counts by the bending of the rules (next 101/1001 I am going to stick to it better!).
Note added to goal Get the back yard back under control and to a manageable level
Finally managed to do this! It took a lot of effort with a weed whacker, but we finally got it under control. Need to go back through and do some weeding, but that is fairly simple and easy.
Since I did not specify what I meant by this...I paid for bus tickets for the couple standing behind me because they were a little short on change (and I did not have the change and the money was tied up on my Orca card anyway).
Arranged to actually buy the cars that we have been driving from my father-in-law - although he is selling them to us for very cheap, I am still counting it!
Note added to goal Get the back yard back under control and to a manageable level
I have made some really good progress on this, but Katie's allergies acting up the last couple of days has prevented me from making more progress on it this weekend.
I am writing a small website that will allow us to track the cost of food at the grocery stores we use - it has a companion app that will make it faster and easier to use.
Working on a very simple app that will help me keep track of food cost so we can optimize and minimize our bills!
Sent in the registration - just have to wait patiently for it to be taken out of our account and the tags sent to us!
Learned Python while making a script for work - I may not be an expert, but I can use the language now!
Note added to goal Write an annual letter to myself on my birthday to open on my birthday
Because of all the crazy I am bending the rules on this to allow me to finish it before my half birthday and count (cheating, I know...but a week after I write it I will have no idea what it said anyway!).
We ordered the tulips, so the key will be just having the ground ready for when we get them and actually planting the bulbs in a timely fashion!
Went to the tulip festival (marking the first time either Lukey or I have been there) - it was super awesome, and we bought a number of tulip bulbs that will be shipped to us later this year (I smell a new goal!).
Another one I am marking done because I did the work, even though it does not show because of the move. I just need to make sure to do a final pass through my clothes when I finally get around to putting them away!
I am marking this as completed because we actually did declutter the house. It got recluttered again with the move, but I am confident we will unpack in such a way that it does not become overwhelming again.
We moved, but in the process I mostly cleaned out the study, and now it is all organized into boxes. The key will be to unpack it slowly, rather than just dumping everything out all at once!
I gave Heather a ticket and we went and rocked out to the Piano Guys - totally worth seeing them live!
The process took much longer than we expected. The inspection cleared well, but the appraisal came in low. As a result our closing date got moved till later (we ultimately saved quite a bit of money on the deal as a result though, which was exciting). Once we got to the closing date we had some trouble with the closing and closed the last day of March. However, we got the house and have moved into it (and out of the apartment) - I think we are all quite a bit happier with our new place!
Finally read this - it was not as good without an English class to discuss with though.
Did this last September with work (on Luke's due date no less).
I have the tickets for the concert, just actually have to go to it.
We got approved for the loan, did the house hunting, found the right house, and are currently under contract. There is still a month to go, and a lot of hurdles to clear (inspection, appraisal, final approval, closing day, etc), but we are definitely looking forward to finishing the process.
Note added to goal Write an annual letter to myself on my birthday to open on my birthday
I opened last years letter - it was good. I still have to write up this years letter and seal it up before this is done.
We got these taken quite some time ago, which was very exciting...both Pippa and Luke did very well at meeting Santa for the first time.
I technically turned it into a calendar online, but decided against buying it because I already had so many to use and it seemed like a waste of money.
52/52 - Some how I got all the way through and actually remembered to take all the pictures, even if I was terrible about updating them. This is really exciting, and it is interesting to see all the changes through the year.
3/3 - We walked, very briefly, in a park near the house we are hoping to buy soon.
23/52 - Got a little delayed on the 23 week one, but did that...I am thinking I might convert this money into an emergency fund when I get to the end, but have not decided for sure.
We actually had this done a couple of times with all the new born photography. I am marking this as complete because it is, but added a goal to get a Santa picture taken (which was what I originally meant).
I am going to write my dad - I never thanked him or apologized for bailing early on him when he took me to college.
We have completed almost all of the shopping, and even done a good bit of the wrapping...I am chalking this up as complete because we did the spirit of the goal (if not the letter).
2/3 - We walked around a nice leash optional park up by my father-in-laws house at Thanksgiving...Pippa seemed to enjoy the extra freedom (and stayed very close, which was nice to see).
12/12 - I got a picture of the December frost, but it did not turn out quite as well as I had hoped. Anyway, all that is left is to turn the whole thing into a calendar.
12/12 - For November I bought Katie a small vase of flowers, and for December I bough a holiday centerpiece with red candles and flowers and some pretty ribbon and greenery.
Note added to goal Read an average of one book a month for a year and keep a list of them
12/12 - Finally read Hamlet...wish I had an English class to discuss it with!
Thanksgiving got in the way and I fell so far behind that I would have to do almost perfectly at running every day for the remainder of the time. I have decided that means I failed and must restart the program.
21/52 - I am now at the part where I am putting away a non-negligible amount each week! It is always nice to see the balance jump like that.
44/52 - It feels weird to be this close to finishing...just 8 short weeks and I will have completed the challenge. I certainly did not loose as much weight as I had hoped, but I have noticed some subtle changes.
1/8 - completed the first week...got shin splints towards the end, but am managing them well.
Hopefully this will the last time I have any weight gain for this project (and for the Day Zero list).
20/52 - Going to keep at this a while!
The cards have all been paid off, so now just to keep them paid off!
I am officially starting the 8 weeks the week starting 11/11.
Note added to goal Read an average of one book a month for a year and keep a list of them
11/12 - Read the Velveteen Rabbit, and the Berenstain Bear's Halloween collection.
40/52 - I did not do so great at keeping the Day Zero stuff up to date, but I did manage to keep up with the pictures. So far I have completed 40! That means I am roughly 75% of the way there! I, unfortunately, have peaked back up to a higher weight, so am starting to work on that again as well.
11/12 - It is amazing to see how much changed happened between September and October and October and November. I am excited about getting the December picture in less than a month and building the calendar (and then getting to see it!).
Luke was born September 21 and weight 8lbs 4oz, and was 19 and 3/4 inches long. In the intervening time I have felt more and more like a dad each day. I think I finally feel like a father most of the time, though there are still days when I do not feel it (of course there are days when I don't really realize the fact that I am married as well still, so that seems par for the course).
19/52 - The money is really growing quite quickly now...to the point where it managed to gain a small, but non 0, amount of interest! How I will spend it when I am done is still up for debate though!
We have started making lists (but not yet checking it twice). We will have all the decisions made before Black Friday, even if one or two items are ordered online after (for budgetary reasons).
Epic fun - each year it gets better and I hope to keep frequenting the Thomas Family Farm for years to come!
10/12 - I bought some flowers for Katie in September, and I bought a center piece for October. I have an idea for the December one, but am still not sure how to get the flowers in for November.
I have applied for a loan that will let me consolidate the credit card debt into a fixed term loan, helping me pay the debt off faster, and with less interest paid. The trick will be keeping the credit cards paid off if we get there.
We actually had two of them - the first at just a couple of days old, the second at about 2 weeks. The photos turned out great from both of them.
I am getting a small consolidation loan to put all the money together, force me to pay slightly higher and consistent amounts, and start putting more towards savings.
32/52 - Finally dropped below 270 as of this photo...I am targeting being in the 250s by the end of the month, though if I have too many more weeks like this last one it will be more of a struggle!
11/52 - The rate the money is growing feels impressive, even though it is still a small amount....but fun either way.
9/12 - The fall change is starting to accelerate - not sure if there will be any leaves on the trees in October at this rate!
10/52 - soon I am going to have to start budgeting in the money to keep up with this goal! At least I know all the money will go towards something good
.

Note added to goal Read an average of one book a month for a year and keep a list of them
9/12 - Finished reading "Pregnancy Day by Day"...admitedly a little ahead of schedule, but I figured there is a chance Luke is born any day now!! Also note, I am (for exactly one day) actually fully on track! Maybe I will read another book this weekend to help keep up
.

31/52 - this picture was actually taken last week (I should start doing the weekly self portrait on Saturdays instead of Sundays so this does not happen!). I actually managed to get a workout in for this one and was feeling pretty good. I did not work out quite as much as I would ideally like this week, but I did work out (and I finally started losing weight again - now to keep it up)!
I have remarkably made a lot of progress on this - it has been nearly 6 years since I started though. Right now I just need to finish getting the desk and computer set up, and pack up (and store) the remaining items in there!
Note added to goal Leave a note on a calendar for future you to stumble upon randomly
Left one in 2016...looking forward to finding it!!
Note added to goal Read an average of one book a month for a year and keep a list of them
8/12 - Read "Dear Zoo" for the first time. Fully of humor, but definitely a light read.
1/6 - took the picture of the rice packs just after I finished them. I also decided that "O" would be for "Oragami Flower" that I made for Katie.
9/52 - the growth of the account has made me feel more in control of my finances...I like have solid savings accounts!
30/52 - I have been extremely busy this week and working out keeps getting pushed to the back of the list. I still feel slightly better, but think exercising more regularly would help - I plan to walk to work everyday this week like I used to, which should help (as long as I do not eat junk from the kitchens as a reaction).
29/52 - I am holding steady size wise, but I can fit into pants that I bought years ago again! That is a major gain...now to get back on the bandwagon for the whole "Get in shape and eat right to weight loss" thing.
Katie and I put together a fairly good list of things to include. It is by no means all inclusive, and it has not been organized yet, but that is a goal for a future list!
